Dr. Whitney Shoemaker D.O.  F.A.C.O.O.G
Dr. Shoemaker offers general and specialized Gynecologic and Pelvic Surgery Services. Although she is Board-Certified in Obstetrics, Dr. Shoemaker has restricted her practice to Gynecology and Women’s Wellness exclusively.

On-Site Surgery
Dr. Shoemaker offers a fully equipped surgical center for patients requiring minor procedures. I.V. sedation is given by a Board-Certified Anesthesia Specialist. Dr. Shoemaker’s surgery facility offers a pre-operative area for patient preparation, a highly technical surgical room, and a relaxing recovery area. Your out-patient surgical experience will comply to the highest medical standards while relaxing in luxurious surroundings.

Surgeries Requiring General Anesthesia
For surgeries requiring general anesthesia, Dr. Shoemaker utilizes Advent Hospital, New Smyrna, FL and Physicians Ambulatory Surgery Center Inc Ambulatory Surgical, Ormond Beach, FL. All of these facilities have advanced equipment, beautiful rooms with comfortable amenities, and extremely competent nursing care.

Women’s Imaging and Testing
Dr. Shoemaker has her own ultrasound suite on-site and offers these studies on a state of the art GE ultrasound machine.  In addition, Urodynamic bladder testing is also performed in the office in a discreet and comfortable setting on the most highly rated technology available.  Dr. Shoemaker personally interprets every ultrasound and Urodynamic study done in the office and reviews them with her patients.

Cosmetic Enhancement 
Injectables and fillers are available for wrinkles and aging as well as Dr. Shoemaker’s five state of the art lasers to address aging, beauty, hair removal, vaginal wellness, sun damage, scarring, and an array of other services to make her patients and aesthetic clients take the best care of their mental, sexual, and physical beauty.

Medical Weight Loss Program
The Gynecology Center and Medispa offers medically assisted weight loss. If you have been struggling to lose weight this program is designed to help you reach your goals. Overseen by Dr. Shoemaker, through a thorough consultation we will help you determine if you are a candidate for medical weight loss and which program will support your weight loss goals.

We offer two different products for weight loss, Semaglutide or Tirzepatide.

Semaglutide

Semaglutide is a modified molecule our bodies make, called GLP-1 analog. It works by increasing insulin production and lowers glucagon secretion as well as targets areas in the brain that regulate appetite and food intake. A small change in the molecule allows the drug to last weeks in our bodies rather than the natural version our bodies make, which lasts minutes.

How does Semaglutide work?

  • Delays how quickly our stomachs digest food. This leads to feeling fuller for a longer period after eating a smaller meal.
  • Slows intestinal motility so you will feel fuller longer after meals.
  • Lowers blood sugar by reducing the production of sugar in the liver.
  • Stimulates insulin secretion by the pancreas.

Benefits of Semaglutide

  • Decreased appetite and cravings.
  • Weight loss
  • Improved blood glucose control

Side effects

  • The most common side effects include nausea, constipation, acid reflux, stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea. The risk of serious side effects increases in patients with hypoglycemia, kidney problems, and risk of allergic reactions.
  • This is not insulin and should not be used if you have type 1 diabetes or develop diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Risk of thyroid c-cell tumor
  • If you or any family member have been diagnosed with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Syndrome type 2 or Medullary thyroid cancer you should not take Semaglutide. If you have ever had pancreatitis consult with your general practitioner before using Semaglutide. Semaglutide can increase your risk for developing pancreatitis.

What is Tirzepatide?

Tirzepatide is a once-weekly injectable dual glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and glucose dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor agonist. It works by increasing insulin production and lowering glucagon secretion as well as targets areas in the brain that regulate appetite and food intake. A small change in the molecule allows the drug to last weeks in our bodies rather than the natural version our bodies make, which lasts minutes.

How Does Tirzepatide Work?

Tirzepatide acts in the following ways:

  • Delays how quickly our stomachs digest food. This leads to feeling fuller for a longer period after eating a smaller meal.
  • Slows intestinal motility so you will feel fuller longer after meals.
  • Lowers blood sugar by reducing the production of sugar in the liver.
  • Stimulates insulin secretion by the pancreas.
  • GIP increases energy expenditure, resulting in weight loss.

Benefits of Tirzepatide:

  • Decreased appetite and craving.
  • Weight loss
  • A1C reduction
  • Improved cardiometabolic measure

Urodynamics
Dr. Shoemaker is recently offering bladder incontinence testing. This is done in her office with a well trained and competent nurse performing the test. The urodynamics testing is performed to help the doctor in the treatment of your individual needs. 

Pregnancy
If you become pregnant or could be pregnant and have a medical problem, please go to the nearest emergency room or call 911. You will be assigned to the obstetrician on call. If you discover while you are a patient at The Gynecology Center and MediSpa that you are pregnant, Dr. Shoemaker will refer you to an obstetrician at the time you complete your prenatal treatment. Dr. Shoemaker does not practice obstetrics at this time.

Scheduling
Dr. Shoemaker’s staff will make every effort to accommodate you based on the urgency of your problem. If you are going to be late for your appointment or you are unable to attend at your scheduled time, please call and give Dr. Shoemaker notice as soon as possible. Due to the serious nature of Gynecology, medical and surgical emergencies may arise. If Dr. Shoemaker is delayed due to a medical or surgical emergency, every effort will be made by her staff to inform you of the situation. If possible, an option will be given to you to wait until Dr. Shoemaker is available or reschedule for a time that is more convenient for you. If you fail to attend your appointment without notice, YOU WILL BE CHARGED A $75 FEE. If you have 3 consecutive no show appointments, you will then be discharged from the practice. If you are more than 15 minutes late for your scheduled appointment you may be asked to reschedule.

Test Results
Dr. Shoemaker or her staff will call you only if your test results are abnormal. You may call at any time if you are concerned about the results of any of your tests. We are affiliated with 3 different Lab Companies, Quest Diagnostics, LabCorp, and GenPath.

Payment
Payment is expected at the time of service. Due to insurance regulations, COPAYS MUST BE RENDERED AT THE TIME OF YOUR APPOINTMENT. If you do not have your copay, we will be happy to reschedule you. Check or cash is graciously accepted. We also accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express for payments over $20.00. A $35.00 processing fee will be added to any returned checks. Insurance cards are required at the time of visit. If you have a deductible that has not yet been met for the year, you may be asked to pay a portion of it upfront. The office will make you aware of the amount when they confirm your appointment the day before. If you are scheduling an in-office procedure, be aware that the total amount of your remaining deductible is due the day of your procedure. If you would have an account balance that is 120 days past due, your account will be sent to collections and you will be discharged from the practice.

Identification
In addition to your insurance card, Dr. Shoemaker requires you to also present a form of picture identification at your appointment. A driver’s license, state-issued identification card, student identification card, or employee identification are all acceptable forms of identification. Your picture will also be taken at the time of your appointment so that you may be promptly identified at every visit.

Cell Phones
Please place your cell phone on vibrate mode when entering The Gynecology Center and MediSpa. Our staff will kindly assist you in changing your cell phone setting if needed.

Children
Although Gynecology is a sensitive field, children may accompany a patient to The Gynecology Center and MediSpa. However, in order to preserve the respectful and peaceful atmosphere of The Gynecology Center and MediSpa, patients with disruptive children will be asked to reschedule their appointment.
